I just wanted to write a short post about a website/software I highly recommend...this is not sponsored at all and I legitimately encourage anyone to use this valuable tool. I use ClickUp all the time to manage everything I do. Writing this post was even a task on my ClickUp!
What is ClickUp?
Remember when you used to see ads for monday.com everywhere? Every heard of Trello? todoist? TickTick? ClickUp is like those, but much better priced and with more features! It's basically a giant to-do list for everything you do. You will never have to worry about forgetting to do something as long as you don't forget to put it into ClickUp. You can make a single task with many tasks inside of it, and track how far you are at completing that task. You can make lots of tasks that all need to get done to complete a large goal, and know exactly which ones you can pick off.
I think a lot of people get stuck not being able to complete large projects because they seem big and intimidating. Really, what needs to be done is for those large ideas to be broken down in to tiny little sub-tasks that can all easily be done one after another. That is why I love ClickUp so much; You can do exactly that!
To-do Lists and Task Management
This is the main thing I use ClickUp for. You can have multiple layers of tasks, including (in order of hierarchy) spaces, folders, lists, tasks, sub-tasks, to-do lists and I am pretty sure, with a recent update, you can go as far as 7 layers past that or something. It's super useful how detailed you can get with all the things you need to do.
Once a task is added, you can add a description, due/start dates, make it recurring, add sub-tasks, write comments (mainly for if you are working with a team), and add all sorts of custom fields. Where you are in a task's completion is kept track of using statuses, and you can add as many custom statuses as you want.
Tasks can also have dependancies, where one task must happen before another and vice versa. That way when you look at your list of tasks you can immediately see what you need to do first.
Collaborations
You can also use it for working on projects with others. You can assign tasks to other members of your team and know, in real time, who is doing what and when. I cannot believe how many teams of people working on large projects don't know about software like this, but it can greatly increase your productivity and make sure everyone is on the same page in terms of where the project(s) stands.
More than just a Task Manager
Not only can ClickUp manage tasks and to-do lists, but it can do many other things. Most notably:
- Time management for tasks and team members
- Integrations, including Slack, GitHub, Everhour, Toggl, Harvest, Google Drive, Dropbox, Google Calendar, Figma, Timeneye, Outlook, Zapier, Intergromat, OneDrive, Sentry, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts, Box, Front, Zoom, Twilio, Bugsnag, Calendly, Miro, Discord, Tableau Web Connector, Giphy, Market.io, and more!
- SSO (Single Sign-On)
- Importing tasks from other PM software or even things like Excel
- Mobile apps
- Documents
- Reports
- Goals to allow you to track anything from learning a skill to completing a milestone in your work performance
