Our 9ft pool table hasn't been serviced since the 90s...time for a refelting and drawer upgrade!
Felt/Cloth
After our pool table cloth got even more trashed than it was before at a party that got out of control, I figured it would be nice to refelt it. I used the Euro Blue Championship Invitational 20oz cloth since I liked the color and it was a thicker cloth that would last longer.
Here you can see how faded the felt was after sitting in the sun and not being changed for decades.
Rails/Bumpers
Now, I also replaced the rubber bumpers on the rails since they had hardened to rock and the balls were not rebounding. They were so stuck on the that I ended up literally using a table saw to cut them off the wood!
Wrapping Up
After all the old cloth was taken off, the new cloth was stretched over the table with the help of a couple friends, secured by adhesive and upholstery staples. It was interesting learning how to wrinkle the fabric under staples on the rails so that it tightly fits the angles with no folds.
And once all that was done, I went around and cut the areas for the pockets, we bolted on the rails, and that was it!
Drawer
When all that was done, I used some spare wood to construct a few inserts in the drawer to hold cues and display a set of pool balls.
